Liver Fluke – Treating in the two A’s
Liver Fluke (Fasciola hepatica) is a parasite of all livestock species in which the larval fluke will burrow through the gut wall and settle themselves in the liver. Their presence damages the liver, resulting in effects to the animal such as ill-thift, anaemia, bottle jaw and in severe infections, death.
Liver Fluke require the help of a halfway host, a freshwater snal (Lymnaea tomentosa), in order to complete their life cycle. Properties with liver fluke history provide suitable habitat for these snails, such as springs, marshy areas, water courses, and irrigated pasture. The recent wet conditions have been ideal for the snails, so liver fluke infections have been on the rise.
Strategic treatment using Vetmec F in April and August will break the liver fluke breeding cycle.
April (Autumn): Designed to kill off fluke that have been picked up over summer, and clean out the cattle prior to the stresses of winter. This is going to be a vital treatment this year, as liver fluke infections are likely to be worse than usual after the wet spring and summer.
August (Spring): This treatment breaks the cycle by removing any fluke that have ‘overwintered’ in the animal and hence prevents the contamination of snails (and therefore pasture) with fluke larvae as the temperatures warm up during spring and summer.
Beat Fluke & Worms this year with Vetmec F Injection & LEV Pour-On
Vetmec F Injection for Cattle combined with LEV Pour-On provides a great solution for treating a full range of gastrointestinal worms and liver fluke in cattle. It is crucial that LEV Pour-On be used when treating with Vetmec F to prevent ivermectin resistance developing in your herd.
This double active strategy provides a gold standard treatment for pre-calving, weaner and introductory/quarantine drenching regimes.

Autumn Cattle Tick Clean Up
Nearing the end of the current tick season, it’s time for the last strategic treatment. Treating with Tickmaster reduces the number of tick eggs that will be laid, thus reducing pasture contamination over winter, resulting in fewer ticks next spring. The best part is that it is now available at heavily discounted prices! Gain peace of mind today!

Sheep News
VETMEC LV & Dual
It has been quite the year, so far, for controlling worms in sheep. The wetter, milder summer across Southern Australia has meant we have seen incidences of Barber’s Pole in areas that don’t typically experience these worms. And we have not seen the good natural parasite cull that a typical hot, dry summer would bring.
Vetmec LV & Vetmec Dual (when combined) are effective against a broad spectrum of worms, including:
- Barber’s Pole Worm (Haemonchus contortus)
- Small Brown Stomach Worm (Ostertagia spp.)
- Black Scour Worms (Trichostrongylus spp.)
- Small Intestinal Worms (Cooperia spp.)
- Lungworm (Dictyocaulus filaria)
- Hookworms (Bumostomum spp.)
- Nodule & Large Bowel Worm (Oesophagostomum spp.)
- Tapeworm Heads & Segments (Moniezia spp.)
- Liver Fluke Adults (Fasciola hepatica)
- Nasal Bot & Itchmite
