Beef Expo 2015

How time flys! It seems like yesterday that we were up in Rockhampton at the 2012 Beef Expo. We will be there again in April 2015 and look forward to catching up with many of our clients. For those who haven’t been this 3 yearly event is well worth a visit!

Herd Health Update

Drench breakdowns both cattle and sheep

Failure of stock to thrive after drenching is not always a drench problem!

With such a focus on drench resistance these days (and quite rightly so) many will after drenching a mob or herd that were not doing well will automatically put any failure to pick up and thrive after drenching down to a failure of the drench treatment.

Several cases that we have investigated lately have reminded us that this is often not the case and that the initial cause of the ill-thrift or the subsequent failure of improvement after drenching has been associated with causes other than worms.

Don’t hesitate to phone for advice, backed by many years of veterinary field experience, if you feel that your drenching strategy or treatments haven’t been effective.

Tough conditions up North

Because of the really tough conditions across northern and western NSW and Queensland there are going to be some really light young cattle turned off in the New Year. Many will want to get them weaned, drenched, programmed and onto whatever feed they can get them onto. Remember these young cattle if stressed are prone to over-dosage of many treatments so make sure to take extra care to ensure young weaned cattle remain hydrated, well supplemented, stressed as little as possible and given the correct dose of any treatments. Great care must be taken when combining several treatments with procedures such as castration, dehorning branding etc.

First Production out of Geelong Facility

As announced in our last newsletter Chemvet has shifted manufacture of the majority of its non-sterile production to Balhan Industrial company located in the regional city of Geelong.

The change over is now complete with the first production of Vetmec LV plus Selenium rolling off the production line in November. The second batch of Vetmec LV is currently in production and early January will see the first batch of Vetmec Dual go through the plant.

Also the phones are always switched through to one of our mobiles after hours, during the weekend and on public holidays, so we are always available to process an order or to give advice. We also receive an alert when any orders are placed over the Internet so these are attended to 24/7 as well.

Fishing-Wars-at-Chemvet

Fishing wars at Chemvet…

Murray managed to tack on a couple of days fishing onto a Chemvet trip to New Zealand recently. The fabulous Bay of Islands was the destination and the target the big kingfish and large Marlin that these waters are known for. No marlin in sight but Murray boated several large ‘Kingies’ only meters away from the famous ‘hole in the rock’. Murray’s comment was that at least this is one fish that he has the wood on Ronnie.
