Description

Vetmec Antiparasitic Cattle Injection – Abamectin 10g/L

The active ingredient in Vetmec Antiparasitic Cattle Injection is abamectin – part of the macrocyclic lactone ‘mectin’ family of endectocides. Abamectin, like all other avermectins (including Ivermectin (e.g. Ivomec ®), eprinomectin (e.g. Eprinex ®), doramectin (e.g. Dectomax®) kills parasites by focusing on their neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) to cripple the transmission of nervous impulses. Its action is different from that of the active ingredients in white and clear drenches. Abamectin is therefore effective against parasites resistant to white and clear drench groups.

Effective against the following parasites:

Internal Parasites:

  • Ostertagia ostertagi
  • Ostertagia lyrata
  • Haemonchus placei
  • Trichostronglyus axei
  • T. colubriformis
  • Cooperia spp
  • Bunostomum phlebotomum
  • Oesophogostomum radiutum and adult Chabertia ovina
  • Nematodirus spathiger and Strongyloides papillosus

Lungworm

  • Adult and immature Dictyocaulus viviparus.

External Parasites

Linognathus vituli (sucking lice)

Aids in the control of cattle tick (Rhipicephalus microplus)

Parasite Control Strategies with VETMEC Cattle Injections

Vetmec Antiparasitic Cattle Injection is ideally suited for tactical and strategic treatments, to help clean up pastures and prevent outbreaks of Type II Ostertagiosis (sudden and mass emergence of ‘dormant’ Ostertagia). Use in conjunction with Vetmec LEV Pour-On for a dual active, resistance breaking drench!

Vetmec Antiparasitic Cattle Injection also provides an ideal opportunity to prevent the build up of sucking lice with a single treatment.

Benefits of Injectable Drenches

Being an injectable product there is greater confidence that the cattle will have received the full dose at treatment compared with pour-on products.

An internal study by Chemvet (OZY9709) demonstrated  that abamectin concentration in the blood, following injection with Vetmec Antiparasitic Cattle Injection, were several times higher than those following a registered abamectin pour-on treatment (click here for article).
