MORE DETAILS ABOUT VETMEC

Vetmec with Abamectin
The active ingredient in VETMEC is abamectin - one of the avermectin / milbemycin family of endectides. Abamectin, like all other avermectins (including Ivermectin (eg Ivomec ® ), eprinomectin (eg Eprinex ® ), doramectin (eg Dectomax ® ) kills parasites by focusing on their neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) to cripple the transmission of nervous impulses. Its action is different from that of the active ingredients in white and clear drenches. Abamectin is therefor effective against parasites resistant to white and clear drench families.

Sound parasite control strategies with VETMEC cattle injections
VETMEC cattle injection is ideally suited for tactical and strategic treatments, to help clean up pastures and prevent outbreaks of Type II Ostertagiosis .

In addition, VETMEC provides an ideal opportunity to prevent the build up of lice with a single treatment.

Being an injectable product there is greater confidence that the cattle will have received the full dose at treatment compared with pour-on products.

An internal study by Chemvet (OZY9709) demonstrated that blood levels following injection with VETMEC were several times higher than those following a registered abamectin pour-on treatment.

VETMEC is effective against the following sensitive strains:

Internal Parasites:

  • Ostertagia ostertagi
  • Ostertagia lyrata
  • Haemonchus placei
  • Trichostronglyus axei
  • T. colubriformis
  • Cooperia spp
  • Bunostomum phlebotomum
  • Oesophogostomum radiutum and adult Chabertia ovina
  • Nematodirus spathiger and Strongyloides papillosus

Lungworm
Adult and immature Dictyocaulus viviparus .

External Parasites
Linognathus vituli (sucking lice). Aids in the control of cattle tick.

Longevity of Action
Effectively controls infection with Haemonchus placei, Ostertagia spp, Cooperia spp, and Oesophogostomum radiutum acquired up to 7 days after treatment and Dictyocaulus viviparus acquired up to 14 days after treatment.
